USS Iowa Arrival: U.S. Coast Guard Warns Boaters to Keep Distance

The decommissioned battleship is expected to arrive Wednesday.

The U.S. Coast Guard announced today that the captain of the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach are establishing a 100-yard safety zone around the battleship , which is currently en route to San Pedro.

The decommissioned, 887-foot battleship is anticipated to arrive at the Port of Los Angeles Wednesday.

"The safety zone will be in place as the ship is transiting into the port, while at temporary anchorage, and at mooring," according to a statement by the U.S. Coast Guard. "No vessel may approach the Iowa within 100-yards without permission of the Coast Guard or the assisting local law enforcement agencies."

Boaters with questions regarding the safety zone can contact the Coast Guard via VHF Channel 16 or Sector Los Angeles, or call the  Long Beach Waterways Management Division at (310) 521-3860.
