City Seeks to Make Parking Ticket Payment More Convenient

Unlike the City of Los Angeles, Hermosa Beach has yet to upgrade to an online payment system for parking tickets. It could make life easier for residents, and encourage less delinquent tickets. And right now, the city needs all the money it can get.

Go to any cafe in Hermosa Beach and you'll find the tables adorned with laptops, proving that the Internet Age is indeed here. But while residents may be ready for it, the City of Hermosa Beach has some catching up to do.

Parking tickets—one of the biggest inconveniences of city life—still need to be paid in person at City Hall, faxed, or sent by snail mail. For web-savvy residents, it's a hassle. But for the city, it could mean fewer paid tickets and a delay in revenues.

With the city facing a growing budget deficit, money from citations and parking is essential to stay afloat. But technology also comes at a price. It could be at least a year before the city is ready to launch an online payment system.
