Umami Burger coming to town

The plans to open a Hermosa Beach location at 1040 Hermosa Ave. by the end of the year. The location will be the restaurant group's first two-story venue.

Drug dogs at Redondo Union High

The Redondo Beach Board of Education voted 3-2 Tuesday night to bring . Board members Todd Loewenstein and Drew Gamet voted against the proposal. The police K-9 units would act as a deterrent so students wouldn't bring drugs to school, said Assistant Superintendent Frank DeSena.

Bike plan adopted

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday unanimously decided to adopt the , which aims to interconnect seven South Bay cities through a network of bike paths. Hermosa joined neighboring Redondo Beach and El Segundo in agreeing to participate in the proposed bike plan. Lawndale, Gardena, Manhattan Beach and Torrance have not yet voted on the project.

Mira Costa basketball coach resigns

Mira Costa High School girls basketball in what Principal Ben Dale has described as personal reasons, but some parents allege it was because the coach had sent a text message that included a racial slur to a player.

Granola for good cause
