Neighbors offer a helping hand

Beach Cities residents offered creative suggestions for helping a neighbor in financial need during tough economic times. About 83 percent of Americans say they would offer assistance to a neighbor in financial need, according to a nationwide State Farm survey released in July.

Salmonella scare hits town

A nationwide was issued this week after health officials reported that a salmonella outbreak has hit the country. Ground turkey was recalled from grocery stores, restaurants and homes Wednesday.

110 Freeway to get toll lanes

Construction crews are scheduled to begin converting carpool lanes on the 110 Freeway Sunday. Solo drivers who travel along the busy freeway will be able to use the lanes for a fee starting next year.
