Week in Review: Smoking Law, Oil Suit Settlement

A lawsuit brought against Hermosa Beach years ago by Macpherson Oil Co. made breaking news this week when a settlement was reached.

City places rules on smoking

An ordinance that 's public parks, pier, outdoor dining areas and the Pier Plaza took effect Thursday. Those caught breaking the newly imposed law will face fines between $100 and $500, said Mayor Howard Fishman in a press conference Monday.

Students read Dr. Seuss

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday presented a to the community. The nationwide Read Across America Day was celebrated Friday. In celebration, local officials, athletes and even Hermosa Beach Patch editor Jacqueline Howard read Dr. Seuss books to students at Hermosa Valley and View schools.

'90210' shoots in the 90254

The CW teen drama 90210 at Hermosa Beach's Saint Rocke on Wednesday. The episode is set to air March 27.

Hermosa, Macpherson Oil reach settlement

Hermosa Beach officials Friday with Macpherson Oil Co. As part of the settlement, a ballot measure that would allow oil drilling in the city will go before voters.

"Whichever course the voters choose, they can know that through this settlement, we have removed the cloud of crippling litigation that has been hanging over the city," said Mayor Howard Fishman in a conference call with reporters.
