Week in Review: Tattoos and Taxes

The Hermosa Beach City Council this week avoids further restrictions on tattoo studios and allows a business license tax initiative to move closer to ballot.

Tattoo studios in town will see no further restrictions for now, the Hermosa Beach City Council has decided. And, the City Clerk has been directed to prepare documents to place a business tax proposal on the Nov. 8 municipal election ballot.

A Hermosa Beach family plans  next month—visiting the Panama Canal, Galapagos Islands, Indies and French Polynesia, and Australia. “This trip is really about trying to expose our kids to a lot of different cultures and see a lot of the world,” Scott Leonard told Patch.

Tattoo rules

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday within city limits. The Planning Commission recommended that the council place buffer zones around the businesses, ban body piercing, and clarify municipal code to include the business of tattoo removal. A group of residents have been rallying for tougher rules on tattoo parlors.

Approving budget

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday . City Councilman Kit Bobko voted against the 2011-2012 fiscal year spending plan, arguing that it was not drafted on a "a fair and open discussion."

Tax initiative

A tax hike for Hermosa Beach restaurants and ba as City Council members unanimously agreed Tuesday to direct city staffers to prepare the initiative for the ballot. The council spoke out against the proposal, but could only block the measure if it was clearly illegal, said the City Attorney. Meanwhile, the city's Business License Tax Review Committee  of its own.
