$10,000
Grant
Strengthens Emergency
Response & Improves Safety

HERMOSA
BEACH, Calif. (May 16, 2014) – Hermosa Beach residents and firefighters will be
safer thanks to a grant awarded by GNW-Evergreen Insurance Services, a division
of HUB International, and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.  This $10,000 grant allows the Hermosa Beach
Fire Department to purchase a new state–of-the-art thermal imaging camera.

Thermal
imaging cameras allow firefighters to “see” through smoke, darkness and other
low visibility conditions.  They are an
invaluable tool in all operations, including helping firefighters quickly
locate victims trapped in a building during a fire or those who may have been
thrown from motor vehicle accidents. They can also play a major role in
reducing property damage. With a thermal imager in hand, firefighters can
locate hot spots inside walls and extinguish them before they spread. It also
allows rescuers to better scout collapsed floors and other dangerous situations
that could result in serious injury or death.

“Thermal
imagers used to be considered a luxury, but now they’re a necessity because
they can be utilized in so many different ways,” said Fire Chief David Lantzer.
“We’re fortunate to have received this donation so we can ensure the safety of
our firefighters and our community with this critical, life-saving piece of
equipment.”

Funded
by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, this grant is part of a nationwide
philanthropic program, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary
this year. Founded in 1863 with a social mission to support the fire service,
Fireman’s Fund today awards grants to fire service organizations for
life-saving equipment, firefighter training and community education programs.  Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants
to more than 2,100 different organizations totaling more than $31 million --
including more than $9 million in California.
Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund
products, like GNW-Evergreen Insurance Services, a division of HUB
International, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Through
this program, HUB International has directed over $675,000 in grants to fire
departments nationwide.

“Equipping first responders with the latest
life-saving technology is critical to ensuring the safety of both firefighters
and local residents,” said Jeff Newman of GNW-Evergreen. “We’re proud to
be able to support this community in such a meaningful way.”
