The event is set for 10 a.m. at the You Can Dance Studio, 1089 Aviation Blvd. and will feature Anna Trebunskaya; it is intended to raise awareness for the importance of having mammograms to screen for cancer.
The event is closed to the public.
Trebunskaya is donating her time, talents and her studio. Dancing has been shown in studies to be an effective form of therapy for cancer patients as it improves well-being and self-esteem, helping to boost immunity, organizers said.
The event will kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Patricia Sacks, M.D., radiologist, and medical director, Torrance Memorial Breast Diagnostic Center, will discuss the importance of regular screening mammograms for early detection.
The Torrance Memorial Breast Diagnostic Center diagnosed 484 patients with breast cancer last year. It performs 35,000 screening mammograms each year.
