An Interview With School District Superintendent

Dr. Bruce Newlin gives an interview to Chirawan Murphy and Tatum Steinmetz, Hermosa Valley School students.

Editor’s Note: Hermosa Valley School’s sixth grade journalism class is using the Patch blog to post some of their work under the guidance of teacher Christine Duclos.

By Chirawan Murphy and Tatum Steinmetz

Interviewing Hermosa Beach School District’s Superintendent Bruce Newlin was quite a special experience.

We asked him many questions about his teaching history and his thoughts on education.

The two of us found out that he started his first teaching job in 1959. He realized that he was making an impact on kids, and also inspiring them.

After recognizing his wonderful gift, he began his journey to becoming a superintendent.

Newlin decided if he taught principals and teachers what he knew the schools could be a better learning place for everyone.

One of the questions we asked was "Why did you choose to be superintendent at Hermosa Valley?" He told us that Hermosa Valley really stood out to him because it had a positive environment and friendly kids.

Freedom is based on a sure identity, that I know who I am, but more importantly WHOSE I am. WhenRead More the LORD sent Moses to deliver His people, that was the beginning of their liberty. They were a particular people to the LORD, whose name is better understand as "He who was, is, and always will be." Not a god made of stone or wood, but the One who made, makes, and evermore makes and gives to us: the LORD took Israel by the hand and led them from bondage to slavery. Not who you are, but whose you are, makes all the difference between bondage and liberty: "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." (Romans 8: 15) Have you been adopted yet? "
