Hermosa Valley Musicians: Trumpets, Saxes, Flutes, Oh My

Annika I. Hanson, a Hermosa Valley School band member, shares the latest news as the school's bands prepare for their winter concert.

Editor’s Note: Hermosa Valley School’s sixth grade journalism class is using the Patch blog to post some of their work under the guidance of teacher Christine Duclos.

The Hermosa Valley Advanced Band (a-band) and Beginner’s Band (b-band) has grown through the years to its highest level, playing anywhere and anything that comes their way.

This 2011-2012 school year b-band has about 40 students, its greatest number of students so far.

Meanwhile, a-band has 10 musicians on a good day and no percussion. However, both bands are chugging along quite well with their Winter Concert this month and smaller gigs along the way.

In band they play classic music from famous composers like Sousa and Beethoven, as well as fun, boppy music from artists like Journey and Lady Gaga.

A-band practices Mondays and b-band on Thursdays, both at 3:15 p.m. after school, so come listen.

Freedom is based on a sure identity, that I know who I am, but more importantly WHOSE I am. WhenRead More the LORD sent Moses to deliver His people, that was the beginning of their liberty. They were a particular people to the LORD, whose name is better understand as "He who was, is, and always will be." Not a god made of stone or wood, but the One who made, makes, and evermore makes and gives to us: the LORD took Israel by the hand and led them from bondage to slavery. Not who you are, but whose you are, makes all the difference between bondage and liberty: "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." (Romans 8: 15) Have you been adopted yet? "
