I am glad to say that I have recently finished assembling my own Basic Emergency Kit or, Go Kit. Well, it still needs a tweak or two, but I am mindful that while I have been encouraging others to prepare for disaster, I have done little preparation of my own. That is, until today. I finally broke through my resistance, took my own advice and P'd. That is, I accomplish three tasks, all beginning with the letter P, that will help me to be prepared in an emergency.
Following guidelines from FEMA's website, http://www.ready.gov/basic-disaster-supplies-kit, I saw a fairly simple course of action for me to prepare for a sudden emergency:
- Pick Up a Few Things-- buy some food items and a couple of small tools
- Pack Up a Few Things -- all the gear fit into a small travel bag I owned
- Put Away a Few Things -- I stored my Go Kit in the trunk of my car.
But now that my Go Kit is complete and is in place, I feel better positioned to meet a sudden calamity and on terms that at least include my forethought. I am glad also, to be ready and able to help others if necessary.
I have added pictures to tell the story of how I prepared. I hope many others will decide to take a moment and prepare, too.
Perhaps I should ask the obvious question: Have you P'd yet?
