Has anybody else noticed a change in the air? The long, hot summer has come to an end—but autumn in the South Bay has charms all its own. The tourists have departed, the weather is sublime, the beaches are pristine and the kids are back in school. The days of autumn have a pace all their own and it’s an idyllic time of year to take in local events before the hectic holiday season gets under way.

If you are already a subscriber of  the Distinguished Speaker Series at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, you can order your tickets now for the 2012/2013 series. This season features Lance Armstrong, Dr. Louise Leakey, Sir Ken Robinson, Steve Wozniak, Robert Gates, Vicente Fox and Caroline Kennedy. Cruise at the Beach happens every Friday night through the end of October with vintage automobiles on display in the Ruby’s Diner parking lot from 4 to 8 p.m. Enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their hot rods, street rods and muscle cars and strut their stuff. The evening also features trivia, trophies and a raffle. Ruby’s Diner is located at 245 N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach. Football frenzy is underway in Southern California, and Total Wine & More has announced its Fantasy Beer Match-Ups, pairing top local brews throughout the country with America’s favorite football teams. The retailer, which carries more than 2,500 different beers in each of its Los Angeles stores, including Redondo Beach, is inviting local fans to show their team spirit by enjoying beers associated with their favorite teams from across the country. Featured match-ups include local favorites from the California coast, as well as craft brews from various football-loving regions throughout the country. Fans are also encouraged to pick their own fantasy lineup using Total Wine & More’s unique “build your own ‘six pack’ feature. Speaking of beer, LA Beer Week comes to a close this weekend! Select Beer Store will be hosting a worldwide celebration of beer and friendship on Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight and will feature special release Green Flash beers. The Automobile Driving Museum presents the Hotrod & Car Craft Cruise Night on the last Friday of each month. This month’s event takes place on Friday and features Stunt Cars from Team Hot Wheels and the official opening of the Hot Wheels exhibit. The Palos Verdes Land Conservancy presents their first Garden-to-Table dining experience on the Peninsula. The Inaugural Gala Features an award-winning James Beard-Inspired menu by award-winning Chef Michael Fiorelli of mar’sel. Hosted by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy in partnership with Terranea Resort, the first Palos Verdes Pastoral: Garden-to-Table Dining Experience will be held Sunday. Showcasing the best of California handcrafted, organic and sustainable products, some of the finest producers from around the state are coming together to donate all of the food and wine for the evening. Tickets are $250 per person and space is limited. Every ticket is entered in an opportunity drawing to win a fabulous Terranea getaway package which includes two nights in a luxury suite and dinner for two at mar’sel. The Norris Center is celebrating its 30th anniversary season this year with an opening production of Noises Off from Sept. 21 through Oct. 7. Called the funniest farce ever written, Noises Off takes a fond look at the follies of theatre folk, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos, memory loss and passionate affairs turns every performance into a high-risk adventure.
