Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide is THE source for activities and events happening throughout the South Bay!

Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, and now it’s the unofficial end of summer (sigh) ... but what an incredible summer it was! There were so many fabulous events happening throughout the South Bay and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Some of my personal favorites: the Hermosa Beach Summer Concert Series; the White Light, White Night fundraiser; Nelson’s Summer Concert Series; the Trump Wine & Beer Festival; and seeing Louis Zamperini speak. But just because the summer is over doesn’t mean the good times have to end. There’s a whole lineup of fun and exciting events throughout the fall, so be sure to check my website each week to see what’s going on and by all means, tell your friends!

Here’s an announcement I’m particularly excited about! On Sept. 20, the Space Shuttle Endeavor will land at LAX on the back of a 747 shuttle carrier aircraft for transport to its new permanent home at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. In preparation for this historic event, the El Segundo Police Department has pre-designated the 300 to 600 blocks of East Imperial Avenue as public viewing space to watch Endeavour aboard the 747 shuttle carrier craft land on the south runway at LAX. Other designated areas for public viewing include the 700 block of West Imperial Avenue and the greenbelt located at Imperial Avenue and California Street. As the date draws near, a firm time frame will be released by the California Science Center and NASA. This is exciting, historic stuff—and you don’t have to travel to Florida to see it! So be sure to mark your calendars—you don’t want to miss this!

As always, check the calendar links and ‘Things to Do’ page on my website, southbaybyjackie.com, for details on these and other events throughout the South Bay.

On The South Bay Show this morning, we spoke to Mayor Michael Gin of Redondo Beach about the ongoing waterfront revitalization plans. Don’t worry - if you missed it, you can listen to it online.

The South Bay Show presents Preparing for Disaster in the South Bay. This very instructive program airs every Friday morning on Blog Talk Radio at 7 a.m. Our guest tomorrow morning is Louise Sattler, Founder of Signing Families. Louise trains first responders on how to how to communicate with individuals with special needs during an emergency situation. It will be an interesting and informative hour so tune in!
