Service For Mary Lou Weiss Sunday

A memorial service for Mary Lou Weiss, 75, who died in her Hermosa Beach home Saturday, will be held Sunday, June 30 at 5 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance. Weiss reportedly died of a heart attack. 

Known for starting the Hermosa Beach Farmers Market in 1990, Weiss became well-known throughout the South Bay for her farmers market work.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jim, who grows orchids and sells them at the Torrance farmers market; her son Brian, a Redondo Beach police officer and member of the SWAT team who runs the Palos Verdes farmers market; her son Steven, a firefighter in Kern County; her sister, Susan Burton of Canton, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Nikki and Jake.
