A Patch Editor's Wish List

Hermosa Beach Patch editor shares some of the tech items on her holiday wish list this year.

Editor's Note: This is the final installment of our five-part "Wish List" series, in which Hermosa Beach Patch columnists share their picks for the season's ultimate presents.

As Hermosa Beach Patch continues to mature and thrive as a part of the community, that's really all I could ask for this holiday.

The greatest gift (and this might sound cheesy, but I'm being totally honest) is when I see Patch making a difference in Hermosa Beach, or at least putting a smile on someone's face—from keeping folks informed during the recent to giving locals a place where their voices are heard.

Having a positive impact in the community remains at the top of my wish list. But if I'm able to have my cake and eat it too, there are a few more gifts my heart desires:

  • Put a dot on it: The Kogeto Dot is a lens that snaps on your iPhone and allows you to shoot panoramic video. You can watch your recordings by virtually spinning around the screenshots or viewing them in panoramic widescreen. The video is still shareable on Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail, as it provides a new way of looking at the world.
  • New running partner: I love to go for on the beach or greenbelt, but hate my old iPod Mini—no matter how often I charge it, like clockwork, the outdated music player runs out of battery once I hit about the two-mile mark during a run. It's time for an upgrade, and the tiny-sized iPod Nano would be the perfect replacement. The new Nano, which was released last year, has its own built-in accelerometer to track steps, distance, pace, and time during each work out—sign me up.
  • Charging lawn: Most Patch editors (or any journalist for that matter) roll with too many gadgets to handle. My laptop, iPhone, and digital camera are used daily, which means the devices need to charge daily too. The Kikkerland grassy lawn charging station charges phones, media players and cameras while also hiding their ugly power cords and adding some green to the room (plus, doesn't it look "Patchy?")
  • Carrying in style: Speaking of gadgets, I could use durable yet stylish carrier bags for my trusty electronics. Along with visions of sugarplums, the Marc Jacobs "turnlock shine" computer bag and Diane von Furstenberg python iPad case are dancing in my head.
