January is National Blood Donor Month: Meet our blood donors

I started donating blood a year or two after my mother passed away, in 2002.  I was very close to my mother and before she left us, would take her to Dr. Appointments. During her last days, she received several blood transfusions, and I thought I would "pay that back" someday. Well, sometime after that, I started donating blood regularly, first to American Red Cross, but learned alternative uses of my blood that they may be assigning to my donation, thus, I discovered Providence (formerly Little Company of Mary) donating drives. Since my mother's passing, I would have to estimate that I've donated at least 10-15 pints of blood, and I continue.  I don't have too much financial resources to donate to worthy cause, but I DO have BLOOD, so I donate that, and it makes me think of my mother with fond memories.
