The Hermosa Beach Police Department is up for review, and residents are being asked to weigh in with their feedback.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will be reviewing the police department to ensure it has met professional standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
CALEA will host a public information session Monday night at 7 p.m. inside the City of Hermosa Beach Council Chambers, 1315 Valley Drive. During the meeting residents can offer their comments—but the amount of time for comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with applicable standards.
Residents can also submit their comments via mail or telephone the following ways:
- Written comments should be mailed to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Ste. 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.
- Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (310) 318-0336 on Monday, Aug. 26, between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. The same 10-minute time constraints apply for all comments.
Information about all applicable standards is available at the Hermosa Beach Police Department, 540 Pier Avenue. For more information, contact Georgia Lonnquist, Accreditation Manager, at (310) 318-0331.
