County DUI Reports Up During Holiday Weekend

Three traffic-related deaths hit the county during the first 36 hours of Labor Day weekend, according to California Highway Patrol.

Los Angeles County saw a small spike in the number of arrests made on suspicion of drunk driving Labor Day weekend compared to last year’s numbers.

From 6:01 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol officers reported 227 arrests were made on suspicion of drunk driving, according to City News Service.

Last year there were 209 arrests.

The California Highway Patrol reported Sunday that Los Angeles County saw three fatal traffic accidents during the first 36 hours of Labor Day weekend.

Only one traffic-related death was reported during that same time period last year.

The DUI count records arrests made by patrol officers. And patrol officers compile the reports of fatal incidents from local police agencies.

Statewide, patrol officers reported six fatalities this holiday weekend, in comparison to eight fatalities last year. 

Patrol officers across the state arrested 1,007 motorists on suspicion of drunk driving, which is an increase from last year’s total of 990.
