Crime Blotter: Attempted Scam Foiled

One attempt at getting money from a resident is foiled when she checks the story out, plus bike thefts, a robbery, and a burglary.

April 22: Robbery, 2100 block of Hermosa Avenue. Victim was walking when unknown males began kicking and hitting him before taking his property and fleeing.

April 24: Attempted Grand Theft, 2800 block of The Strand. An elderly resident received a call that her grandson was arrested in Equador, and needed more than $3,000 for his bail and defense. The resident asked her daughter about the story and was told it was a scam. No money was sent.

April 25: Bicycle Theft, 600 block of 30th Street. The victim left his bicycle unlocked in front of his residence on 04-18-12 at 2 a.m. At 8 a.m., the victim returned and discovered his bike missing. The bike was an 18 spedd blue/black road bike, extra-large frame. There is no information on the suspect.

April 27: Bicycle Theft, 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The lock on a beach cruiser bike was cut and the bike stolen by an unknown suspect.                                          

April 27: Car Burglary, 1600 Pacific Coast Highway. An unknown suspect broke into a car and removed property.

April 29: Burglary, 1000 block of 2nd Street. Unknown suspect or suspects broke a glass door in the afternoon hours and entered the home, taking a bike, laptop and iPod. When the victim returned home, she entered through the garage and saw that the home had been ransacked. She immediately grabbed her phone, left the residence and called the police.
