FBI: Violent Crime Down in Hermosa

Bureau's statistics for 2010 show a decrease in violent crime in Hermosa Beach compared to 2009.

Hermosa Beach has seen less violence in the community, according to statistics in the 2010 edition of the FBI's annual report Crime in the United States.

A total of 83 violent crimes were reported in Hermosa Beach in 2009, according to the report, but that number dropped to 40 last year.

A decrease in violent crime between 2009 and 2010 was also seen nationwide, the FBI said in a statement following the release of its 2010 report on Sept. 19.

For the fourth consecutive year, the country saw a decline in violent crimes, which was a 6.5 percent decrease from the 2009 crime rate, according to the bureau.

Violent crime statewide also saw a downward trend. There were 164,133 violent crimes in California reported to the FBI in 2010—a decrease from 174,934 in 2009.
