Fire Officials Help in El Segundo Helicopter Crash
The Hermosa Beach Fire Department and other local emergency crews respond to the crash that ignites a three-alarm fire at a Raytheon building.
A helicopter crash on the Raytheon campus in El Segundo around 10 a.m. Sunday has injured the pilot and caused a three-alarm fire, Manhattan Beach Battalion Chief Frank Chiella told Patch.
The pilot, who was found away from the crash, was transported to a trauma center and is expected to survive, El Segundo Fire Chief Kevin Smith told reporters during a press conference.
The lift helicopter that crashed had been performing work on a building, and on its last lift with equipment it "had trouble getting the unit off the roof," Chiella said.

The helicopter then pummeled next to a two-story office building that was unoccupied, and fire from the accident spread to the first and second floors of a nearby building, Chiella said.
The building is in a gated complex south of El Segundo Boulevard and east of Sepulveda Boulevard, with an entrance gate on Continental.
