Holiday DUI Enforcement Set for Hermosa

A countywide DUI crackdown continues this week.

A number of DUI checkpoints are planned for the South Bay as continued law enforcement efforts sweep the area this holiday season.

Patrols and checkpoints, which launched Friday in Los Angeles County as part of the Avoid campaign, resulted in at least 598 arrests on suspicion of driving under the influence between early Friday and late Sunday, the county Sheriff’s Department reported Monday. Hermosa Beach was included in the patrol areas.

Last year, 510 arrests were made during the same three-day period across the county, according to the department.

Now DUI patrols will continue to monitor areas across the county, including Hermosa Beach, this week and next week. Plus, the upcoming weekend will include DUI checkpoints in the nearby cities of Gardena and Torrance, according to county sheriffs.

If you spot a suspected drunk driver on the road, Hermosa Beach police and the county encourage you to call 911 to report the driver.
