Kiwanis, Youth Plant Succulents at Police Station

The 'Kiwanis One Day' brings together members and youth to beautify an area in the city.

The Kiwanis Club of Hermosa Beach beautified the gardens surrounding the Hermosa Beach Police Station Sunday in honor of the organization's "Kiwanis One Day," said Jane Walker, spokesperson for Kiwanis Hermosa Beach.

Volunteers planted more than 40 succulent plants in front of the police station, she said, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Said Cathy McCurdy, the chairman of the event, "The city, with the help of Hermosa Beach Public Works Superintendent Ells Freeman first cleared out the old plants and prepared the ground for us to come in with our fresh green succulents and do the digging and planting."
