Landmark Hermosa: Police Station

If you guessed the Hermosa Beach Police Department for this morning's trivia, you were right.

While the has served the city since 1908, its police station near the corner of Pier Avenue and Valley Drive dates back to only 1959.

The city’s first police station sat in the 1200 block of Hermosa Avenue, where City Hall was built in 1914, according to the city website.

A new fire and police station was then built in 1959 at 540 Pier Ave., where Hermosa Beach public safety officers are still now stationed.

The police department includes detectives, traffic officers, patrol, and even a drug dog program with .

The department not only patrols Hermosa Beach but also sometimes assists with emergency situations in neighboring communities.

Police officers are also assigned to monitor the city during events—such as and , when the entire department is deployed, according to the police department’s website.
