Man Acquitted in Stabbing After Witness Confesses

A jury finds Todd McCowen not guilty of stabbing Ivan Diaz outside downtown's Cafe Boogaloo last year.

A Redondo Beach man was found not guilty Monday of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing outside a Hermosa Beach bar last year.

The verdict came only four days after a witness took the stand and confessed to the crime, the Daily Breeze reported Tuesday.

Redondo Beach resident Todd McCowan, 29, was accused of stabbing Ivan Diaz four times in the chest and in the finger outside on Aug. 30, 2010, authorities said. Diaz was reportedly so intoxicated that he didn't know what happened.

Redondo Beach resident Stryker Rearick, who had already pleaded guilty to assault in the case, confessed to the crime during the trial.

Under double jeopardy rules, Rearick cannot be prosecuted in connection with the case; however, he may face perjury charges, prosecutors said.
