Man Arrested After Crashing Into House

Hermosa Beach police arrest a San Pedro resident after he leads officers on a chase.

A parolee being sought on a pair of arrest warrants led Hermosa Beach police on a car chase through city streets today, running traffic signals and stop signs and colliding with three vehicles and a single-family home before being apprehended, police said.

Shortly after 7 a.m., a Hermosa Beach police officer tried to stop the driver of a silver Honda Accord with paper plates at Aviation Boulevard and Ocean Drive.

The driver, later identified as Phillip Landry Rivera, 34, a San Pedro transient, made several turns to avoid stopping and then fled at a high rate of speed, according to Detective Mick Gaglia of the .

Rivera was pursued as he sped south on Ocean Drive, failing to stop at any traffic signs or signals, Gaglia said. He collided with another vehicle at Eighth Place, but continued south on Ocean, ultimately crashing into two other vehicles and a single-family residence, according to Gaglia.

The suspect was arrested after trying to flee on foot.

Gaglia said Rivera served prison time for receiving stolen property.

He was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, leaving the scene of an accident, evading police, resisting arrest, possessing a controlled substance and being a felon in possess of ammunition, Gaglia said.

The nature of the original arrest warrants was unknown.
