Man Confuses Pedals, Drives Onto Sidewalk: Police

A man exiting the Jack in the Box on the Redondo Beach-Hermosa Beach border mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and wound up on the sidewalk of Aviation Boulevard on Thursday morning.

The car squeezed between a wall and neighborhood watch signpost before crashing into a lightpole on Aviation Boulevard just past Harper Avenue at about 8 a.m.; however, the driver was not injured, according to officers at the scene. There were no passengers in the car.

The incident did not cause any traffic congestion on Aviation Boulevard, police said. Motorists driving past the scene did not appear to notice the car on the sidewalk.

The scene was cleared by 9:30 a.m.
