A 33-year-old Redondo Beach man has pleaded no contest to a charge of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 nearly two years after Hermosa Beach Police detectives were contacted by the boy's mother.
Daniel “Danny” Joseph Gibb, who was the boy's ice hockey coach, now has a felony strike on his record and will serve three years in state prison and be required to register as a sexual offender for life, said HBPD Detective Mick Gaglia. Gibb surrendered to court Sept. 13.
As a resident of Hermosa Beach, the woman contacted HBPD on Sept. 15, 2010. Detectives then gathered evidence of the molestation from taped phone calls they initiated and executed a search warrant of Gibb's apartment during which they found "a large quantity of nude photographs of children" on his laptop computer. Gaglia described Gibb as a traveling ice hockey coach who taught at a variety of ice rinks.
Gibb was arrested on Sept. 23, 2010, and bonded from custody after his arraignment. Torrance Deputy District Attorney Lowrie Mendoza is credited by HBPD for working during the past 23 months to reach the plea with Gibb’s attorney.
