Police have confirmed that the fight in which two people were stabbed Sunday night on Pier Plaza took place outside of any business, said Detective Michael Frilot of the Hermosa Beach Police Department.
A news releases issued by the department initially reported that a verbal argument began in Sharkeez. Officials now say that was not the case.
Frilot said two groups got into a physical fight after racial slurs were made.
Two Hispanic men were stabbed and transported to a hospital where they remain in stable condition. One victim required surgery.
Frilot said the weapon appears to have been a knife. Police have yet to recover it.
One of the suspects, a black male, Dimetrick Richmond, 26, of Whittier, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder a few blocks away after the attacks, said Detective Mick Gaglia. Richmond was in court Tuesday and is being held on $1 million bail, Gaglia said.
Frilot said police are still looking for other suspects and the investigation is ongoing. He said the suspects are black, according to a witness.
