Pinkberry Co-Founder Arrested in Assault Case

The Los Angeles Times reports he is accused of attacking a homeless man.

One of the founders of the yogurt chain, which has a location here in Hermosa Beach, was arrested Monday at Los Angeles International Airport on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Young Lee, 47, was arrested by the LAX Fugitive Task Force on a warrant for an assault that happened in the downtown Los Angeles area in June, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Karen Rayner.

Lee is accused by authorities of chasing down a homeless man and beating him with a tire iron after the transient approached him, seeking money, according to the Los Angeles Times, which first reported the arrest.

The Times also reported that the LAX task force included LAPD officers and FBI agents. At the time of the report, Lee was in the process of paying $60,000 bail and being released from jail, Rayner said.

Lee co-founded Pinkberry with Shelly Hwang in 2005.
