Police Blotter: Case of the Missing Rock

Recent thefts reported to police include a home's decorative rock.

Thefts, including items stolen from two cars on the same day—and the removal of a decorative rock from the outside of a home—were among crimes reported by the Hermosa Beach Police Department within the previous week. Here is a roundup:

Rock rustler

A home in the 100 block of Eighth Street is not the same, as a decorative rock that normally sits outside the residence was reportedly stolen at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A witness provided police with information about a possible suspect, police said. The resident of the home is desirous of prosecution, according to police.

Laptop lifted

A man was checking out of the on Pier Plaza at about midnight Friday when he realized that his laptop computer was missing from his backpack, police said. The man suspected his roommate at the hostel stole the laptop, according to police.

Car burglaries

Four tickets to a Los Angeles Lakers game, valued at more than $630, were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Fourth Street at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. At about 9 a.m. the same day, a GPS device was stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Third Street, police said.

Smashed window

A home under construction in the 1100 block of Second Street was broken into at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. The residence reportedly was unoccupied. No property was stolen, but a large sliding-glass window was smashed, police said.

Wallet taken

A man's wallet was stolen out of his unlocked vehicle in the 1300 block of Owosso Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Credit cards in the wallet were later used to make purchases at two local gas stations and an online pay service for pornography, according to police.
