Case of Missing Campaign Signs

It's a trend every election season, according to Hermosa Beach police.

With the approaching, campaign signs for Hermosa Beach City Council candidates have been posted on various street corners throughout town—and in police Sgt. Robert Higgins' 17 years of serving the community, he has noticed that such signs always get tampered with, he said.

"Every year we usually have a few that get taken," Higgins told Patch on Thursday. "Somebody will take them and throw them in the bushes or something."

So far this election season no political signs have been reported as stolen to the , Higgins said.

But Hermosa Beach Neighborhood Watch in its weekly newsletter Tuesday announced that some signs from different campaigns have fallen victim to the annual trend.

Stealing a campaign sign "is a misdemeanor theft and any person caught is subject to arrest and/or citation," the group said.

As Patch did a short tour of town Thursday night, campaign signs were spotted along residential roads or in business windows along PCH.

Most of the signs belonged to candidates vying for two open seats on the : Peter Tucker, Michael DiVirgilio, Hany Fangary, and Steve Powers.
