Police Blotter: Thieves Get Away

Police continue to search for two suspects wanted in connection with a robbery at Avanti Jewelers as well as looking for a liquor snatcher.

Robber's sketch

Police released the sketch of a man suspected of robbing Avanti Jewelers on Pacific Coast Highway this week. The man held the store owner at gunpoint Tuesday at around 10 a.m., according to police.  The gunman forced the store owner to the ground and restrained him, police were told. The store owner said that he heard an accomplice enter the store and help the gunman steal cash and jewels. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at the Hermosa Beach Police Department at (310) 318-0360.

Suspected burglar arrested

A man was arrested for breaking into homes near Bayview Drive Thursday, according to police. Parolee Anthony Chavez, 35, had allegedly taken mail from various residences, and possessed a stolen vehicle registered in the city of Bell. Police are continuing to investigate exactly how many homes Chavez may have illegally entered.

Police are searching for a man who stole a can of alcohol from Robert's Liquor store on Pier Plaza last week. After entering the store at around 9 p.m. July 30, the thief grabbed the alcohol and walked out without paying, according to a witness. Police are investigating the theft.

Smashed window

Someone smashed out the rear window of a vehicle parked on the 100 block of 1st Street last week, leaving glass and debris in the area. The owner of the vehicle called police July 30 to report the damage. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle, according to police, but they are continuing to investigate.
