Pool Death Tragic

A Hermosa Beach Police detective calls the death of a 53-year-old woman incredibly sad.

Hermosa Beach Detective Mark Gaglia Tuesday characterized the death of Trina Marie Heard-Broughton, 53, of Long Beach as sad, saying, "She was a really nice lady."

Though the coroner's official report on the cause of death, which will include a toxicology report, is not completed yet, Gaglia said that foul play is not suspected.

Heard-Broughton was wearing street clothes when she was found in the pool of a friend's house in the 2100 block of Loma Drive around 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 14. Speculation is that she went outside in the early morning hours to smoke and tripped and fell into the pool when no one else was awake, said Gaglia.

Hermosa paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reportedly, Heard-Broughton was not an "avid swimmer," "had consumed alcoholic beverages the night before" she was found dead and "was in possession of several medications," according to a Hermosa Beach police statement issued days after her death.
