Safety Vehicles to Visit Neighborhood Watch Blocks

The "Bearcat," the armored vehicle used by SWAT, will be among the safety vehicles visiting residents during National Night Out.

Hermosa Beach Neighborhood Watch and the City Safety Teams will participate in National Night Out Tuesday from 6:15 to 8 p.m., said Tracy Hopkins of Neighborhood Watch.

As in years past, a variety of safety vehicles, including a Hermosa Beach Fire Department fire engine and ambulance and the "Bearcat" will visit the blocks of Hermosa Beach Neighborhood Watch block captains. Other participants include L.A. County Fire/Lifeguards, a Hermosa Beach Police Department motor officer and public works.

The safety vehicles will rotate to a new block approximately every 20 minutes with each vehicle starting at a different block at 6:15 p.m., said Hopkins.

National Night Out is in its 30th year of bringing people together in communities to fight crime and prevent drug use. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the annual evening is expected to draw more than 15,700 communities consisting of 37.5 million people from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
