Sean Francis Smith Identified as Man Found Unresponsive in Hotel Hot Tub

Smith, who was 43, was found floating face down in a hot tub. Paramedics were unable to revive him.

Sean Francis Smith, born Feb. 14, 1969, has been identified as the man found unresponsive on Nov. 14 at the Quality Inn & Suites, said Hermosa Beach Police Detective Mick Gaglia. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police were responding to a call reporting a possible trespasser in the hot tub area of the hotel at 901 Aviation Boulevard. When they arrived around 7:45 a.m., they found Smith floating face down in the hot tub.

There were no signs of foul play at the scene, said HBPD Sergeant Robert Higgins. A cause of death has not been stated pending a toxicology report, said Det. Gaglia. Police said they found empty alcohol containers at the scene and that Smith, who they say was a transient, had a history of alcohol and narcotic abuse. The man's relatives have been notified of his death.
