AES Protests Continue on Hermosa Border

Ongoing rallies are in protest against rebuilding AES Redondo Power Plant.

Some Beach Cities residents gathered at the corner of 190th/Herondo Street and PCH in Hermosa on Saturday afternoon to rally against the continued operation of the in neighboring Redondo Beach.

AES has planned to re-power (or "rebuild") the plant on Harbor Drive. But protestors and turning the land into a local park and commercial lots.

Due to new state requirements regarding once-through cooling, the plant must either repower (rebuild), or be decommissioned. And that a new plant would occupy a smaller footprint, produce less pollution and provide more power.
