Updated: Ballot Argument Submittal Period Open

Arguments for or against Hermosa Beach measures on the November municipal ballot may be submitted to the City Clerk by Aug. 9.

Update (Wednesday, 1:25 p.m.): The deadline to submit arguments or rebuttals for the Business License Tax Committee's ballot initiative has been extended by one week, according to the city clerk's office.

The filing period for written arguments for or against measures on Hermosa Beach’s Nov. 8 municipal election ballot continues until Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Rebuttal arguments, not to exceed 250 words in length, may be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, according to the city clerk’s office.

Two rival ordinances that propose to revamp the city’s business license tax structure will appear on the ballot:

  1. an ordinance and organized by Hermosa Beach resident Jim Lissner;
  2. and an ordinance submitted by the .

In a Hermosa Beach City Council meeting last week, that his ordinance was flawed and would prefer to remove it from the ballot.

However, the initiative could not be removed, because it had legally qualified for the ballot, according to city officials.
