Budgets and Service Contracts Up for Vote

The City Council is expected to adopt the 2010-11 fiscal year budget and decide on maintenance agreements at its meeting Tuesday.

A public hearing for the adoption of this year's city budget tops the agenda for the Hermosa Beach City Council meeting Tuesday.

The council approved several moves this month that erased a $2.4 million deficit in its $27-million budget.

In addition to the budget approval vote, the council will also vote on public service contracts for janitorial, elevator and storm drain maintenance.

A recommendation has been made to award the janitorial services contract to S & S Facility Maintenance in Carson. The three-year contract would cost the city $321,012 to provide janitors and cleanup in public facilities. Contracting out this service is the most cost-effective method, according to the city.

The council will also decide whether to extend a three-year elevator maintenance agreement with Reliable Elevator in Downey as well as a storm drain contract with United Storm Wave that would cost a total of $36,574.

If Mayor Michael DiVirgilio and the council approve these contracts, then public works director Richard Morgan will have to follow the new budgeted amount for services.

The council meeting is June 22 at  7 p.m. at council chambers.
