City Makes Liquor License Policy a Priority, Again

The City Council is expected to discuss policy regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol at its meeting Tuesday.

Whether or not alcohol-serving restaurants should close by 10 p.m. or later, and other regulations concerning drinking in town, have been a hot topic on City Council meeting agendas from years past, and the present.

The council will discuss, again, establishing stricter rules for local liquor-serving establishments at a meeting Tuesday.

In the past, the council agreed that crafting clear and concise regulation for restaurants to follow remains an important goal that needs to be checked off of the "to-do" list.

"It hurts business to have an unclear policy," said Councilman Patrick "Kit" Bobko at a meeting in May.

The state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) issues liquor licenses to restaurants, along with its own rules to follow. The possible city policy will tighten the regulation already in place.

Mayor Michael DiVirgilio and the council will also consider a citywide freeze on entitlements for local bars and restaurants, according to the meeting agenda.

The council meeting is July 13 at 7 p.m. at council chambers.
