Residents to Discuss Aviation Bike Lane

Beach Cities residents are invited to discuss the design and implementation of a bike lane along Aviation Boulevard.

As the Vitality City initiative continues in the Beach Cities, the project has turned its focus to the busy Aviation Boulevard.

In an effort to make the thoroughfare more bike-friendly, experts plan to design and implement an Aviation Boulevard bike lane.

A to discuss the Aviation Boulevard Bike Lane Master Plan with community members Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at (see accompanying invite under photo).

"Designed with people in mind, the bike lane allows citizens to commute to and from work safely by bike instead of car," according to the Vitality City website. "It links a dense employment corridor with a residential area, setting both up for potential increase in property value."

The bike lane plan includes adding symbols and signage to Aviation Boulevard, as well as a change in traffic lane width.

I agree a bike lane is nice, but only if it is safe. I question the safety of a squeezed in bike lane next to angry and distracted motorists in very narrow (and curvy) lanes. Does anyone know how far on each end the bike lane will go? I hope at least to LAX (north) and all the way to the beach (south).
