Crime Increases More Than 10% in 2012

One category of crime doubles in 2012 from 2011 statistics as reported by the Daily Breeze newspaper.

Rape and auto theft were the two crimes that increased the most in Hermosa Beach from 2011 to 2012, according to statistics gathered by the Daily Breeze. Auto theft rose from 25 in 2011 to 50 in 2012, and rape increased from 7 in 2011 to 9 in 2012 in MB. Homicides decreased from 1 in 2011 to none in 2012.

Overall, crime went up 11.3 percent in Hermosa from 2011 to 2012, according to the newspaper.

Crime in Manhattan Beach increased 3.2 percent and .4 percent in Redondo Beach from 2011 to 2012. Crime in the nearby cities of Hawthorne, El Segundo and Lawndale deceased .2 percent, 2.8 percent and 6.4 percent respectively for the same time period.

The Daily Breeze reports that the compiled statistics are based on the California Crime Index, which totals the number of felony crimes reported in the six categories to measure upward and downward trends.
