Foam Containers on Council Agenda

The Hermosa Beach Green Task Force has recommended that the city ban Styrofoam take-out containers used at restaurants.

The Hermosa Beach City Council will discuss in a meeting Tuesday night whether to move forward with considering a citywide ban on polystyrene (commonly known as Styrofoam) restaurant take-out containers.

The that the city prohibit the use of polystyrene foam containers from being distributed in local businesses as the petroleum-based plastic material could harm the environment, according to the panel.

The City Council has the option of directing city staffers to prepare a potential ordinance banning the use of polystyrene take-out containers and schedule a public hearing to gather community input.
