Free Parking for the Holidays

The city will allow up to three hours of free parking at street parking meters downtown starting Sunday, Dec. 11.

In celebration of the winter holidays, Hermosa Beach annually offers free parking to residents and visitors for two weeks in December and this year is no different.

From Dec. 11 through Christmas Day, the city will provide up to three hours of free parking at silver meters downtown, the City Council unanimously agreed in an October meeting.

"It’ll help our businesses during this hard economic time," said Councilman Peter Tucker during the Oct. 25 meeting.

An insert will be placed in the parking meters showing that three hours of free parking is allowed.

While the free parking will be offered at silver meters, it will not be permitted in the parking structure on 13th Street and Hermosa Avenue, or Lot A on 11th Street and Hermosa Avenue.

The city estimates the gift of free parking will result in losing about $34,400 in parking meter funds and about $30,250 in parking citations during the two-week period (see accompanying document).
