Hahn Announces 2012 Campaign In New District

Janice Hahn, who now represents Hermosa Beach in the 36th Congressional District, announces she'll run for re-election in the 44th District next year due to redistricting.

Congresswoman Janice Hahn on Monday announced that she plans to run for re-election in the June 2012 primary—but not here in the 36th Congressional District, which includes Hermosa Beach.

Hahn will campaign for re-election in California’s new 44th Congressional District, where she lives, according to the announcement.

"As the current Representative for California’s old 36th Congressional District, I pledge to continue to be the voice for the residents who elected me just over a month ago. However, because of , the district I currently represent will no longer exist in 2012," she said in the announcement.

With redistricting, Hermosa Beach, Redondo and Manhattan Beach and the northern part of the 36th Congressional District was drawn in with Santa Monica, Malibu and Beverly Hills to create a new district.

Then the Harbor Communities of San Pedro and Wilmington were linked with Watts, Carson, South Gate, Compton, Lynwood, Willowbrook and Walnut Park to create the 44th Congressional District.

Hahn said that she plans to run for California’s new 44th District not only because she lives there, but she also knows the communities well.

Hahn has lived in San Pedro for two decades, and raised her three children in the community.

She also had represented the Harbor-Area and Watts communities as a member of the Los Angeles City Council and an elected member of the Los Angeles Charter Commission.

"My campaign will focus on creating more good jobs, and my top priority every day in Congress will be job creation and getting California’s economy back on track," Hahn said. "People are hurting and the only way we are going to stimulate our economy is by getting people back to work."
