Hermosa Beach Holds Onto Water Challenge Lead

The regional competition challenges city residents to pledge to conserve water and reduce waste.

As the first week of the Wyland Foundation's Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation came to an end Friday, Hermosa Beach clung to the 1st Place stance it has held since day one of the regional contest.

But neighboring Redondo Beach appears to be a strong contender as it moved up in the race from the No. 3 slot to No. 2, replacing Long Beach.

The challenge continues to April 30 and encourages Southern Californians to take the foundation's Clean Water Pledge to conserve water and reduce waste by promising to fix leaky faucets or practice composting, for example.
