Smoking in several outdoor places around Hermosa Beach , starting March 1.
The areas include Pier Plaza, the Strand, the greenbelt, outdoor dining places and city parking lots.
The Hermosa Beach City Council decided 4-1 in a meeting Tuesday night to share news of the smoking prohibition with community members through a public information program, funded by the county.
"Healthy Air Hermosa" regulatory signs will be placed around town as well as some coasters, posters and banners (see accompanying city staff report under photo.)
Councilman Kit Bobko cast the dissenting vote in the decision. He has publicly opposed the smoking ban since it was proposed last year, , "so Orwellian that I think Orwell would be offended by it."
