Hermosa City Council to Consider Polystyrene Ban and Helicopter Noise

A potential ban on polystyrene food service containers and a request to support a federal bill on helicopter noise are on the agenda for tonight's City Council meeting.

The Hermosa Beach City Council will consider banning polystyrene food service containers at their regular meeting tonight in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, at 7 p.m.

Polystyrene, more commonly known by its trademarked name Styrofoam, has been designated a major environmental problem.

In addition to the ordinance banning the food containers, the council is being asked to formally support HR 2677, the Los Angeles Helicopter Noise Relief Act of 2011, a bill currently in Congress which will limit noise from helicopters flying over residential areas.

This will also be the last City Council meeting for city manager Steve Burrell, who is retiring at the end of the month.

Comments from the public on both of the above issues, plus other issues not on the agenda are encouraged.
