Hermosa Passes Business License Tax Measure

With all precincts reporting Tuesday night, Hermosa Beach residents pass the city-backed Business License Tax Committee's ordinance and vote down a "flawed" competing measure.

Hermosa Beach voters passed the 's Measure N with 60 percent of ballots cast Tuesday night. The measure will restructure the city's business license tax plan.

"The City of Hermosa Beach and its businesses have undergone substantial changes in the 23 years since the business license tax was last amended, and the current system doesn’t reflect those changes," said Hermosa Beach Mayor Howard Fishman when . "The proposed ordinance the City Council voted to put on the Nov. 8 ballot more accurately reflects the businesses currently operating in Hermosa Beach."

Hermosa Beach residents voted down the competing initiative—titled "an ordinance modifying the amount of the business tax on restaurants and bars in order to increase tax revenue to the city."

The measure was proposed by Hermosa Beach resident Jim Lissner, who later campaigned against the tax plan because he said it was flawed.
