High School Paper Says 'Shoot Down' Oil Drilling

The student editorial thoughtfully examines the oil drilling project in Hermosa Beach.

La Vista, the award-winning student newspaper for Mira Costa High School, says that Hermosa Beach residents should "shoot down" the oil drilling proposal facing the city's registered voters.

Though the exact date voters will decide whether or not the city will allow E&B Natural Resources to drill for oil from a location in the city has yet to be determined, many in the community are mulling how they will vote when the time comes.

Pro and con factions are at work in the city, attempting to sway voters to their side.

In its thoughtful editorial, the writer opines that each side has faults, and lists them. 

Beyond those however, the editorial reports that "lost property value, environmental damage, or other intangible costs like unsightly towers drilling would easily outweigh any positive programs additional money would give the city."
